How to apply or renew a liquor permit.

To apply for a liquor permit for an event in ACT, there are two types of liquor permits available depending on your circumstance. If you're applying on behalf of a non-profit organisation you may qualify for a non-commercial liquor permit. For all others, you may qualify for a commercial liquor permit.

For a non-commercial permit, you will need to obtain written permission from the land custodian or leaseholder approving you or your group to sell liquor at the location. We may request further information to complete our assessment. A non-commercial permit is renewable if an application is received 30 days prior to the current expiry date.

For a commercial permit, you will need to complete a Risk-assessment management plan online, RAMP and provide written permission from the land custodian or leaseholder approving you or your group to sell liquor at the location. In addition, we may request a marked plan showing the event boundary, including where liquor will be sold and consumed in. We may request further information to complete our assessment. Please note that, a commercial permit is not renewable and a permit cannot be issued to a trust entity or trustee.

Due to processing times, it would be advantageous to lodge your application at least 1 month prior to your event (if possible).

The proposed permit-holder is the entity that will hold the liquor permit.

A close associate / Influential person is a person who: holds or will hold an executive position in the proposed permit-holder’s business; is able to exercise significant influence over the conduct of the proposed permit-holder’s business because they hold or will hold a financial interest in the business; or is entitled to exercise a relevant power in the business.

Before completing this application please have the following documentation available:

  • For a corporation or association, registration details i.e. ASIC extract
  • Permission letter from the land custodian or leaseholder for the sale of liquor at the event location
  • Valid photo identification for person completing the application

The application fee for a permit must be paid with submission of this form.
